What truly causes warts?

I have a 9 year old little boy who has warts on his hands. Does anybody know what really causes them?

Believe it or not, a virus actually causes them. My mother has them. Of all things, it is a Herpes virus! Moles are caused by it, too. As odd as it may sound, one thing I read that gets rid of them is placing a square of duct tape over it for six days. The wart should then be dried out and crumble off.
the only thing that worked in getting rid of my warts (it was a very nasty strand that resisted everything including medical treatments administered by physiciians) was a product called "Warts No More", apply the liquid a few times a day and eventually the warts will become smaller and disappear.. can take a month or so and I would recommend watering it down with vanilla extract to make it go further
HPV virus causes warts, there are over 100 kinds, some are bad some are really bad! tell ur kid to keep his hands away from his genitals so it dont spread down there
