Hello Jackie,
Genital warts are an "outcome" and they are actually caused by Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). You can do pap test to detect HPV infection even though there is still no symptoms. However, for men, there is no HPV test yet, but only in research setting.
Pap test will show whether there is any cell changes in your cervix. Some warts may grow deep inside the cervix and hence are "invisible" to human eyes.
A person infected with HPV may or may not show symptoms and HPV can persist in a person body with or without causing cell changes that may lead to genital warts. If the body immune system is strong enough to fight off the virus, no genital warts will develop. However, if your body immune system is weak, HPV will take charge and cause visible cell changes that may lead to genital warts.
If unfortunately infected, new warts will appear only from 1 to 8 months after first contact with the virus.
It is better for you to do the test asap because some HPV may cause genital cancers as recognized by WHO . Take note even though the types of HPV that cause genital warts and genital cancers are different, person who has genital warts infection will increase her/ his risk of getting genital cancers.
Practice sex safe by using condom even it has no 100% guarantee in preventing spreading to others.
You have solved your own problem…. ONE of your lover(S)?!?!? THAT’S the problem….. SMH..
