I contracted HPV genital warts from my husband, I have the symptoms of warts but he doesn’t, I need to know if having unprotected sex will keep the warts from going away. Also, should he see a doctor since he has it, even if he doesn’t have symptoms?

Your husband may want to see a doctor to make sure there are no small almost invisible warts. Many people with the virus don’t show a visible wart..treatments are only done on the visible wart…when they are no warts then no treatment can be done. Treatments only remove the visible wart..they don’t remove the virus.
You and your husband share your HPV type…however condoms has been shown to help the regression of the virus…right now you are in a high viral load…and sex can cause micro-abrasion to your vulva…treatments can also cause some irritation to delicate genital this…this can allow more entry points for the virus…condoms don’t help as much in preventing entry points for the virus when you have warts. In time the body does build immunity to your acquired HPV type…but sex could prolong your wart infection due to more traumas o your vulva. If you do engage in sex it would be important to use a condom.
The decision to refrain from sex during treatments should be made between you and your partner. Once immunity is obtained then you and your partner will not ping pong the virus back and forth.
